With abortion, gay marriage, and other “hot” issues in the spot light, more people than ever are beginning to feel that church groups are focusing too much time, energy, and money on politics and ignoring the needs of their flock. The trend towards using the church to fight political battles instead of preaching the love of God, combined with widely publicized sex scandals involving religious leaders who were once viewed as being above reproach, have caused some church members to question the faith they were raised in and explore new options. Membership in several large Christian denominations is down, while the number of people that classify themselves as religiously unaffiliated is on the rise.

Have we as a society been taught to believe that hand made presents should not be valued as much as the latest electronic gadget? Are there some occasions where we should feel obligated to purchase gifts? Should we feel bad if we cannot afford to buy something as expensive as another person gives us? And do gifts have to be a tangible item to have value?

Are TV producers looking for ways to bring out the worst qualities in people just to make a profit? And why are so many people glued to their TVs to watch this sort of entertainment? Are their own lives so boring that they gain satisfaction from seeing other people be degraded? And what makes people want to take part in this type of program?

Is The Right To Life More Important Than The Quality of Life?

Sometimes, it seems that people who hold a pro-life view on abortion have much more interest in a fetus being born than in the quality of life a baby will have if the mother delivers it. This week, Dr Kevin and Sherri Jefferson ask the questions: Are pro-lifers willing to work as hard at making sure that babies and their families have a reasonable quality of life as they are currently working to prevent abortions? Are they willing to pay more taxes so poor mothers-to-be can have pre-natal care? And what about expectant mothers who discover that their lives will be endangered if they carry a baby to term? Where is the quality of life for that mother’s other children if she dies during labor? Can a reasonable person truly see abortion as a black-and-white issue when the decisions involved are colored by so many shades of gray?
